The Stephensons hired us to take their 5,000 square foot split level contemporary hillside home in the Pacific Palisades, that was built by award winning Predock Frane Architects, to the next level.
Using its’ atmosphere of ‘literally living in nature’ as our inspiration, and taking Chris and Nell’s healthy, organic and casual lifestyle. We chose to use sustainable and natural materials to design their perfect interior.
Entertaining and cooking healthfully is a mainstay in their home. By using a sustainably harvested live edge table as the dining rooms focal point, topped with local hand made ceramics to enhance the beauty of the space, we were able to keep the integrity of our intention . In addition, we built a custom window seat with natural fabrics, vintage denim and Kilim pillows to incorporate a unique and cozy place for conversation as the slide away glass panel doors open up to the outdoor seating space, creating one large space for relaxation and flow.
The living area supports the intention of an upscale casual lifestyle. We designed and customized their sectional to fit their space perfectly and used natural and recycled materials to showcase the room, from vintage military canvas to reclaimed Brazilian wood. Taking their personal story into consideration, we used a surfboard shaped reclaimed coffee table to represent one of their favorite past times and a reminder on how they first met.
The penthouse master suite incorporates a walk-in master bath. We used this space for Chris and Nell’s personalized meditation area, using new and old tokens that create a spiritual balance for the two of them.
The colors we used for their home were inspired by the artwork chosen for the spaces and the natural surroundings that the hillside provides. Incorporating large plants and cacti into the interior of their home and outdoor patio mirrors the beautiful hillside that the home is built upon, the ultimate in bringing the outdoors in, as their tree house is born.
